During the pandemic -- as the world shut down and life stopped spinning -- the Lord opened my eyes to see bits of His beauty all around me in nature. For 43 years, I had looked but not seen; had missed the daily gifts right in front of me.
Then one day, on a walk with a friend and my 5-year-old niece, I paused to pluck a bit of this, a stem of that, along the way. My friend asked why I was picking weeds.
"Those aren't weeds," my little niece said. "They're little bits of glory."
And so I was reminded that weeds can be beautiful in their own way -- if only we have the eyes to see.
Four years later, I'm still collecting whatever broken bits and scraps of beauty I find along my path.
When I assemble my collected bits to produce something beautiful, I am reminded that God is there in the middle of the mess, and He can give it meaning. He can transform our pain into purpose for His glory.
In Psalm 56:8, David says, "You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book."
And our God won’t let a single one go to waste.
Flower Gallery
Photography is another way I can preserve a flower's beauty, capturing color and form during its brief life.
Some of the photos in this collection were taken in my own backyard, during walks around my town or through local parks and markets. Others were taken during my travels or while helping judge at the annual Philadelphia Flower Show.
